In an exciting, unbeatably intense first set, Isner pounds down 130+ mph serve after serve (his serve percentage was twice as effective on the deuce side, interestingly enough), sending the Federer Express reeling into a tiebreaker, where Isner, after going up a minibreak, proceeded to close out the set - sending the crowd into an absolute frenzy, and making the world number one lose his first set of the tournament.
Is Roger shaken? You bet - but at the same time Isner is overwhelmed by the experience, and Fedex, ice in his veins, continues a cool and calculated gameplan, leading to an early break in the second set, and a streak of 98 points without an unforced error, for a scoreline of 6-7 (4-7) 6-2 6-4 6-2 to wrap up the match and secure a spot in the fourth round against Feliciano Lopez.
For Isner to have been unseeded several months ago and now to find himself in the third round of a Grand Slam, and having taken a set off the world's best tennis player is no small feat. John McEnroe points out that he expects Isner, if he remains healthy, to easily break into the top 25. What do you think?
