Juan Ignacio Chela, top performing clay courter from Argentina, got a surprise as John went up two sets and a break on one of the outside courts during the first round at Roland Garros. Booming serves and consistent groundies kept Chela tripping over his ankles, unable to gain footing on the red clay until halfway into the third set.
The frustrating thing is that even with all the court coverage, we couldn't find this darn match on TV. Needless to say, Chela scrapped his way back, regained his footing, and went on to take the match 2-6 3-6 7-5 6-3 6-4. A bit winded from the match with our big man, he fell in the next round to Verdasco, who took him out in four sets.
