Australian Open 2010, First Round

Big John, seeded #33 going into this year's Australian Open, takes down the #49 player in the world - Italian Andreas Seppi, in an intense 5 set match amidst rain delays. The final score was 6-3, 6-3, 3-6, 5-7, 6-4...

John was off to a strong start and was looking to wrap the match up in straight sets. But Seppi played hard and fought back, leveling the match at 2 sets a piece. John went up an early break and rode it out with some consistent, heavy serving, to take the match 6-4 in the fifth. Isner will face Louk Sorensen, the first Irishman to win a first round match at the Australian Open in the Open Era, in the second round. Louk measures in at 5'8", a good foot below Isner. This may sound like an easy match, and Louk may well need trampoline shoes to get to John's kick serve, but let's not take anything for granted - Sorensen won four qualifying matches to get here and is in prime shape to play on one of tennis' biggest stages.

Go ahead, John!!!

I've just heard that you beat G. Monfils at the Australian Open. Great result. I wish you good luck against Murray. I will surely enjoy this match between two of my favorite players...

Dearly.

Nico, from France.
